I've been mad frustrated lately because I've been getting the run around from some booking managers in trying to fill the rest of this year with performances. Yes, the Summertime is hard, but because of our...level (?) we have to book within a certain window that is not too early and not too late. And that window is especially jarring when it's time for people to live and let go during the Summer.
I mean, that's how we were all trained, right? You spend all year in school studying/working, and during the summer, you're supposed to relax because it's hot and carefree. Well...that's how it should work, but we live in a capitalist society over here in the US where you're supposed to want to work all the time. That's some BS, but I - personally - am a victim of that mindset. So, I really struggle with slowing down and not expecting the same level of concentration from people with whom I interact.
When you think about it, summer is the only season we've never planned anything special; end of summer, sure but not during. Would we be able to change that? Maybe people have more free time here, but we all have so many projects and clerical jobs on top of being a band every other part of the year. So, taking a break would be good. And, really, who can fault anyone of this desire.
But I'm going to need some of these booking managers to actually book us. We're good!
